David Brady came to Stanford from Rice University in 1986 with a joint appointment in the Graduate School of Busi<span class="text_exposed_show">ness and Political Science. Additionally, he is now also the Davies Family Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution. David was born in Kankakee, Illinois and lives with his wife, Carolyn, on the Stanford campus. They have three daughters who live in the Bay Area and seven grandchildren. Julie Kennedy, PhD ’92, Geological Sciences, with a BS in Geology from UC Davis. Professor (Teaching), Department of Earth System Science; Senior Fellow, Woods Institute for the Environment; Landreth Family University Fellow in Undergraduate Education. Julie has had various leadership roles in the Earth Systems Program for 22 years, and was Faculty Co-director of the Haas Center for Public Service for 5 years. She stepped down in August, 2015. Julie is an avid gardener and hiker. With her wonderful partner of 37 years, Ron Adler, Julie loves taking long walks in her neighborhood and spending time with friends and neighbors. She looks forward to spending more time with family and friends and also having more time for community service work when she retires at the end of August. The daughter of medical missionaries, Jean was home-schooled in China as a child, and attended high school in Manteca, CA. She is still active with Stanford Associates as an emeritus member of the Board of Governors. She also remains active on the board of Cap & Gown, and often wears the lapel pins she has on in the photograph: a ruby-studded “S” for 40 years of volunteer service to Stanford, a Stanford Centennial pin, her Class of '47 pin, and a Stanford Associates pin. Jean was an employee of the Stanford Office of Development for over 20 years, where she got the Parents Program up and running. Jean’s favorite quote is, “Take your cookies when they’re passed." It’s also the title of her memoir. She currently lives in Sunnyvale, CA.
Christy Smith has been Stanford’s Arizona Garden Coordinator since 1999. She also works as the Manuscripts Accessioning Manager for Special Collections and University Archives, splitting the two positions 50/50. She manages a core group of about 15 volunteers—and a much larger group of occasional participants—who tend to the Cactus Garden. Christy has a degree from Yale, and teaches an annual class on Cacti and Succulents for the Foothill College horticulture program. Dr. Shirley J. Everett, Senior Associate Vice Provost for Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), the largest university auxiliary, is the steward of a $1.8 billion asset portfolio, comprising one-third of Stanford’s physical plant. She leads an 800+ staff organization that houses 12K students, serves over 6M meals, hosts 20K conference guests, and a half-million athletic concession guests each year; she serves on the University Cabinet that shapes Stanford’s direction, policy, and planning. Shirley earned both her doctorate in Education and MBA from Saint Mary’s College of CA, and Bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University. She hails from Chicago. Ron has been at Stanford since 2012 after 20+ years as an Assistant Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of California. Roger worked at Caltech from ’76-’03 before coming to Stanford to start up the Kavli Institute of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (KIPAC), which he directed from 2003-13. He was recently awarded the prestigious 2016 Crafoord Prize in Astronomy along with Roy Kerr, University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, "for fundamental work concerning rotating black holes and their astrophysical consequences." Chris was born in El Paso, Texas and went to the same high school as Buddy Holly after moving to Lubbock. He is working under the direction of Prof. Kathryn Moler, using a technique called scanning SQUID (Superconducting QUantum Interference Device) microscopy to do magnetic imaging at extremely low temperatures. He mostly studies exotic superconductors. Other degrees: BS in Applied Physics from Caltech; MSc in Applied Physics, with a concentration in Quantum Nanoscience, from TU Delft in the Netherlands. His favorite place on campus is the Keith Memorial Terrace, the little fountain behind MemChu with the rose bushes. He likes to poke back there after the University Public Worship service, before heading back to lab, quite literally to stop and smell the roses. At Stanford, Tina was editor of the <em>Stanford Daily</em>; founder of <em>Upfront</em>, a general interest magazine; host of a KZSU talk show; and was involved in various entrepreneurial ventures including creating and selling Stanford-related gear. She is currently the Co-President of the Stanford Club of Connecticut and Westchester; and a member of the BOSP Advisory Board, the Stanford Parents Advisory Board, the Stanford NY Arts Council Committee, and the Class of ’84 Reunion Committee. At Stanford, Britt is a STVP (Stanford Technology Ventures Program) Student Associate; Mint Magazine Event Director; Kappa Kappa Gamma PR Chair; and Campus Ambassador for Campus Jobs, a local online job search site. Britt’s favorite spot on campus is the Quad. “No matter how many times I walk through, I always stop and take a moment to appreciate how beautiful it is. George Jedenoff, ’40, BS in mechanical engineering, MBA ’42. Perennial reunion chair for the Class of ‘40; secretary of his MBA Class, of which there are just 6 members left. Also, a 2009 winner of the Stanford Medal, given to volunteer leaders for decades of distinguished and significant volunteer service to Stanford. Retired in 1977 from US Steel after 38 years. Became president of Kaiser Steel for three years before retiring in 1980. Lives in Orinda, CA, with his wife, Barbara, ’43. They met her sophomore year, when George was a hasher for the Chi Omega sorority, and were married in Memorial Church on February 27, 1943. At age 98, George works out every morning and still skis. Conducts education and business development for MIT App Inventor, a project that seeks to democratize software development. The blocks-based language enables people–even those with no prior coding experience–to create mobile apps for Android devices.
